Enclosure in Berkshire
Dr Ross Wordie's survey of enclosures 1485-1885 was published in 2000. It provides a comprehensive account of surviving records for enclosures throughout the county. Berkshire was an agricultural county lying between counties of greater enclosure to its south and the more open counties to its north. It was profoundly affected by enclosure, with over two-thirds of its area enclosed by Act of Parliament or local agreement in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Artist Iris Garrelfs translated historic documents into an audio composition to complement a walk-through route for visitors to an Office open day. Visitors were invited to wander through the 8-channel digital space as they passed through the Office. Iris described the work as 'a continuous drama of interaction, sweetness and disaster that weaves through time and space'.

The Reading Merchant Guild
The accounts of the Merchant Gild from 1357-1516 form the latest publication by the Berkshire Record Society. The late Dr Cecil Slade produced a transcript of the 74 surviving cofferers' account rolls which was published in 2003. These rolls provide a wealth of detail about the properties owned by the Gild, as well as listing items of expenditure for cleansing, entertainments and so on. The rolls also provide an insight into the sometimes strained relationship between the Gild and Reading Abbey.
