Royal Borough Museum Collection


The Royal Borough Museum Collection is the local history collection for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. There are changing exhibitions from the collection at Town & Crown (above the Royal Windsor Information Centre), 24 High Street, Windsor.

Amongst the museum collection's 6000 items are archaeological finds, paintings, prints, drawings, maps, books, dioramas, costume and a wide variety of social history objects, all relating to Windsor, Maidenhead and the surrounding area. The museum store is open by appointment only; the Town & Crown is open daily.


The Heritage Development Officer is currently seconded from and managed by Reading Museum Service. For all enquiries please contact Caroline McCutcheon, Heritage Development Officer

Town & Crown is on the first floor above the Royal Windsor Information Centre at 24 High Street facing Windsor Castle and the Guildhall. The exhibition rooms are accessed by stairs and a lift. ‘Town & Crown’ is FREE to visit and is signposted throughout the town centre for pedestrians.

By Car

The nearest Car Parks are in River Street, Victoria Street and King Edward Court.

By Train

Trains from London Paddington via Slough arrive at Windsor Central Station. Trains from London Waterloo arrive at Windsor Riverside Station
Both are a few minutes walk from the High Street.

The Museum Store is open to visitors on Wednesday mornings by prior appointment and directions to the Store will be given when the appointment is made.
